Ingredients
  

Filling
  • 2 cups dried figs, chopped
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Dough
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar (for dough)
  • 1 egg egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk
Dusting
  • to taste powdered sugar for dusting

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook fig filling: combine figs, walnuts, 1 cup sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and lemon juice; simmer until thickened, then cool.
  3. Make dough: mix flour, baking powder, salt; cream butter and sugar; add egg and milk.
  4. Assemble cookies: roll dough into rectangles, add filling, fold, and seal edges.
  5. Bake on parchment-lined sheet at 350°F for 15-20 minutes until golden. Cool and dust with powdered sugar.
