Ingredients
  

Dry ingredients
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Wet ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
Icing
  • 3 to 4 cups powdered sugar for icing
  • 2 tablespoons milk
Decorations

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Mix dry ingredients; set aside.
  2. Cream butter and sugar, then add egg and extracts. Blend dry ingredients into wet mixture.
  3. Roll dough into balls, flatten, and bake for 8-10 minutes. Cool on wire racks.
  4. Mix powdered sugar and milk to make icing, add food coloring if desired. Decorate cooled cookies with icing and sprinkles.

Notes

For best results, chill dough before rolling and decorating.
