Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for rolling

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Cream butter and sugar, then add molasses, egg, vanilla.
  3. Combine wet and dry, refrigerate for 30 mins. Form dough balls, coat in powdered sugar.
  4. Place on baking sheet, bake 10-12 mins. Cool before serving.

Notes

Chill the dough for easier handling and better crinkle effects.
