Ingredients
  

Bread and Dairy
  • 12 oz uncooked bread (preferably day-old bread)
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 tsp dried vanilla extract
Vanilla Sauce
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Mix bread, ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, basil, milk, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Pour into a baking dish.
  2. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Uncover, sprinkle with cheese, and bake 10–15 minutes until golden.
  3. Meanwhile, prepare vanilla sauce by heating cream with sugar and vanilla until thickened. Serve warm over bread pudding.

Notes

Use day-old bread for best texture and flavor.
