Ingredients
  

Bread
  • 8 ounces French bread about ½ loaf, cubed
Eggs
  • 5 large eggs
Milk
  • 2 cups whole milk
Butter
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
Sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
Vanilla Extract
  • 2 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
Ground Cinnamon
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon divided
Brown Sugar (Topping)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons brown sugar for topping
Optional Toppings
  • powdered sugar, fresh berries, maple syrup optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Create a caramelized layer with ½ cup brown sugar, 2 teaspoons vanilla, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon; spread evenly.
  3. Layer the cubed bread over the caramelized mixture.
  4. Mix eggs, milk, melted butter, remaining cinnamon, and vanilla; pour over bread.
  5. Sprinkle 1½ tablespoons brown sugar on top and add optional toppings if desired.
  6. Bake for 40 minutes until golden and set. Serve warm with optional toppings.

Notes

For a richer flavor, let the casserole sit for 10 minutes before serving.
