Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • red food coloring red food coloring
  • powdered sugar powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • candy cane molds candy cane molds

Method
 

  1. Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water; heat until sugar dissolves.
  2. Bring to 300°F (hard crack stage) without stirring.
  3. Remove from heat, stir in peppermint extract and red food coloring.
  4. Pour into molds, filling three-quarters full; cool for 30 minutes.
  5. Remove from molds, dust with powdered sugar, and enjoy.

Notes

Use a candy thermometer for best results and work quickly when pouring the hot mixture.
